24 May Choir set for town centre date

Horsham will be filled with the sound of music this Saturday when a volunteer choir gives the first ever public performance of the town’s new anthem.

The choir will take to the bandstand in the Carfax to perform the song Horsham Town, composed by local singer/songwriter Ben Chambers.

Ben, who beat off stiff competition to win the recent Song for Horsham competition, will also be on hand to make sure the event is a memorable one.

Vocal coach Kaytie Harding, founder of Voice from the Coalshed and the inspiration for bringing the choir together, said: “We have been working really hard for the last couple of weeks getting the choir ready for the big day.

“Ben has given us a fantastic song and now it’s our job to bring it to life and make the town proud of its new anthem.”

As well as hitting the right note for Horsham’s civic pride, the choir will be raising funds for the Horsham 100 charity, which this year is supporting the Dame Vera Lynn Trust for Children with Cerebral Palsy.

Prominent local businesses Courtney Green and Covers have been instrumental in sponsoring the choir and individual singers have also been on the fundraising trail.

It is hoped that the event will raise around £20,000 and take the total amount raised by Horsham 100 past the milestone £100,000 mark.

Horsham 100 co-founder Peter Sutton said: “Thanks to the generosity of Covers and Courtney Green, together with the goodwill of the singers, we can combine making music with raising much-needed funds for a very worthy cause.”
